Analysis of Force Application in Self Righting Objects

This is a project from my Statics class in the fall of 2021. The goal was to derive a mathematical model for a self righting 'roly-polie' defined as a composite shape with a hemispherical base attached to a cone of equal diameter. The derived model was tested experimentally, and used to determine a critical aspect ratio at which the object would neither fall nor stand.
The findings from this project were intended to derive a method for predicting how an object like this would respond to different types of force application, and how design changes could influence those behaviors. The detailed report is attached below, and while it's not exactly a quick read there are some good images and descriptions to scroll through.
