My first (and still favorite) car is this '88 Porsche 944. I purchased it sight unseen from California in the spring of 2020 when everyone was going crazy looking for projects. I figured it would be as good a time as any to dive in head-first and get serious about teaching myself how to work on cars. I was right, and it really sparked a passion for mixing the roles of a mechanic and mechanical engineer as much as I could.
My original intention was to continuously restore it. Since then, after taking care of the essentials, I've gotten into more of a "fix it when it breaks" mentality in the interest of maximizing seat time.
Few of these projects were carefully documented, but I've got lots of miscellaneous photos, and a list of the jobs I'd be happy to talk more about, including:
Timing belt, balance shaft belts, and engine pulleys
Brake caliper rebuilds and line replacements on all 4 corners
Brake master cylinder replacement
Full clutch hydraulics replacement including master cylinder and slave cylinder
Custom welded cat-back exhaust
Window regulators and speakers
Plugs, plug wires, rotor, and distributor
Custom battery cables
Climate control actuator repairs
Repairing the gears in the dreaded sunroof mechanism
Instrument cluster repair and odometer gear replacement
